About the stuff. It could be almost anything. If we imagine thatit is one of the items listed it becomes easier to see how our simplified picture is a portrait of the manager's responsibilities.
One simplistic way presents itself for arranging a mangement hierarchy. More valuable stuff deserves "better," "more expensive" management. But when we look at this eclectic mix it is certainly unclear how we would consistently assign value.. and value to whom.
